The Complete Guide to Erasing Scars
By AshleyRB
Scarring of the skin is a very common occurrence. While it is a well known fact that everyone has them scars can still be very distressing. Fortunately, there are a wide variety of options available to help rid the body of any unwelcome scars.
There are a variety of over the counter creams that can be used to fade scars of any type. It is best to stick with ingredients that are proven to work as not to waste time or money. Hydroquinone is one proven ingredient that will visibly fade scars within just a few weeks, but beware there are a few side effects that may come with it. Products that contain hydroquinone are considered bleaching creams.
Silicone Gel sheets can be used to prevent and fade scars. Products that contain Alpha Hydroxy Acid are also very effective, as they remove the top layer of the skin revealing undamaged skin. Glycolic Acid is an example of one Alpha Hydroxy Acid and can be used daily in small amounts. Retinoid, Tretinoin, and Kojic Acid are all proven to lighten scars and are found in various cosmetic products.
There are more natural ways to fade scars, too. Vitamin E, cocoa butter, shea butter, aloe vera, olive oil, and lemon juice all can be used to lighten skin discoloration and scars of all types. While natural products can help fade scaring they may not be as effective as over the counter products.
The more invasive methods of removing imperfections of the skin include laser removal, chemical peels, dermabrasion, and microdermabrasion. These treatments are best left in the hands of professions and not attempted at home. A person planning to get one of the more invasive scar treatments done should first consult their dermatologist.
Both raised and sunken scars can also be corrected through skin injections. Injectible fillers provide collagen to help raise sunken in scars. Steroid injections have the opposite effect of fillers and are used to flatten out raised scars.
Above all else, the best action to take would be prevention. It is much more simple to prevent scarring and discoloration than it is to correct it. Prevention consists of wearing sunscreen daily, acne medication, exfoliating, avoiding picking at scabs, and putting ointment on new wounds. Armed with the right knowledge anyone can have flawless skin!

Very informative hub on fading scars. Sometimes it can't be prevented, so it is helpful to read this hub about ways to reduce that discoloration.
